Severe floods in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala

Catastrophic floods due to incessant rains have wreaked havoc in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala. More than 200 people have been killed and over 10 lakhs have been severely affected by the floods.

Heavy losses in Maharashtra; flood-affected victims in critical situations

Maharashtra has reported 50 deaths due to floods. Over 5 lakhs have been evacuated by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). A total of 22 districts in Maharashtra have been severely affected. Many incidents of structural collapse, submergence of state and national highways were reported across affected districts. Nine people (including a woman and three children) died in Sangli district as a boat carrying about 30 capsized during rescue operations. Infrastructure has taken a hit, many ICDS centres, schools and the water supply have been affected.

Widespread loss of agriculture and allied livelihoods have put marginal farmers and landless labourers at the risk of deprivation and loss, and would require assistance to recover from the impact of floods.
