charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Most of our work is concentrated on Sub Saharan Africa, serving rural communities, where the needs are the greatest.

There are 663 million people on the planet who don’t have access to clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep kids out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.

Access to clean water means education, income and health – especially for women and kids. We inspire giving and empower others to raise funds for sustainable water solutions. We use local partners on the ground to build and implement the projects. Then, we prove every project funded with GPS coordinates, photos, and stories from the field. In our first 12 years charity: water has funded more than 28,000 water projects for more than 8 million people.
